when the reason for your distress is a watermelon on a shirt, you know you're not the targets of an active genocide

It's not the watermelon, it's the shape of it which clearly denies the existence of Israel.

It's not denying it, its making a statement about it. Israel is a political entity borne out of a political movement and antisemitism. It's as valid for someone to say they don't think Israel should exist as a state as it is for someone to say its fine that it exists. There are single-state proponents just as there are two-state proponents. Yet it's only one specific side that is automatically penalised for their opinion.

It's not valid to say Israel doesn't have a right to exist, there is a lot wrong in Germany right now but at least we have laws regarding hate speech.

It absolutely is valid. No state has a 'right' to exist. And anti-zionism is a totally valid viewpoint and not hate-speech in the slightest, certainly not in the UK. You've actually helpfully highlighted one of the many things wrong in Germany currently. Attempting to atone for Germany's own genocide by being actively complicit in another is one of the more horrendous things I've seen in recent times. I used to think Germany's education on the Holocaust was worthy, real atonement and a genuine attempt to prevent something like that ever happening again but in reality its clear that nothing has been learned at all.

lbr now bb, the last government have basically made peaceful protest illegal here in the UK. we've got environmental and pro-Palestine campaigners doing more time than domestic terrorists with images of abused children on their devices. we're not a good measuring stick for anything related to politics - especially where sovreignty, collonialism, hate speech, etc. are involved

All that being said, I fundamentally agree with you. The right of a state to exist and the right of its people to exist are very different things, which is getting missed (or intentionally overlooked) in a lot of discourse around the genocide in Gaza

I don't recall saying the UK was a good measuring stick for anything? I'm from NI. I know from painful experience exactly what the UK and its government is. I pointed out a single aspect of the UK regarding zionism and anti-zionism. The UK government is as complicit in this genocide as Germany, as are the people who voted in Labour. I don't think anything I've posted on the topic has ever suggested otherwise?

My bad, I misunderstood how you were referencing the U.K. in your comment.

I agree with everything you’re saying.

Germany is one of the biggest supporters of the current genocide though.

lmao let me say it extra loud for you - Israel DOES NOT have a right to exist. NO ONE has a right to an ethnocentric state that also requires an active, year long plus genocide to rid the inhabitants of the land

Iznotreal should absolutely NOT exist. The end.

It has no right to exist, nor should it - it’s a colonial settler state. If Germany is so concerned with creating a Jewish state perhaps they should have volunteered part of their own country, as they are responsible for the suffering of so many Jewish people after all.

It has no right to exist and its end can't come soon enough.

I know Germany has a certain history with Jews... But Israel =/= all Jews. What was done in the Holocaust was horrid, but it does not justify the violent and oppressive displacement of Palestinians. It is an apartheid, ethnoreligious state. Wanting a safe haven where Jews can be free from persecution cannot be built on the oppression of another people. No nation should be.

As a naturalised German myself, there is no at least. We have scraped the bottom of the barrel clean. Maybe we should consider not shutting the bank accounts of Jewish peace organisations and threatening their members, and beating, arresting and belittling Jewish protesters.

Maybe we can consider that Jews live worldwide and deserve to be safe everywhere they are including in Berlin, and that extermination campaigns of an ethnic group or riots in favour of the right to gang rape prisoners are not intrinsically Jewish so they can be criticised without being antisemitic.

Maybe we can consider that supporting the freedom of Palestinians all over Israel and Palestine - because the population of Israel itself is 20% Palestinian Arab, people who are living as second class citizens - is not a position that requires Israel to stop existing.

Maybe then we can deserve to be taken goddamn seriously as a country.
