I’m still shocked by how the youth is in love with Die with Smile. It’s so distinctly “meh”, but people are raving about it having an actual melody and real singers.
They never heard something contemporary to their generation that sounded like that.
Sometimes an artist will release something and I'll think "I heard/saw that a decade ago", but for a whole new generation is brand new. And even if they are aware something similar existed before, it's not as fun as enjoying it being released in real time.
It is absolutely not just the youth. Although both demographics probably love it for the same reason: it is a genuinely good song with great vocalists, and it's more than we can ask from 90% of today's mainstream acts.
