the vast majority of my friends don't bat an eye if someone isn't drinking alcohol, but i have a couple of friends who - every single time the topic of taking a break from alcohol comes up - act like they have literally no idea why anyone would choose not to drink. they act like this is the first time they've ever heard of someone not drinking alcohol (even when i've had the exact same conversation with them before) and have no idea how a person functions in the world without it.

i've seen in sober online spaces like subreddits & instagram pages people often say they struggle with responding when someone puts them on the spot asking "why aren't you drinking?? are you pregnant??" etc. and the replies typically come off dismissive like "just tell them it's none of their business it's not that hard!!" when we should be telling people not to put others on the spot in the first place or make a big thing of it if you notice they're not drinking.

i do drink but very rarely, even when out with friends. i get around this by being a designated driver 99% of the time. i get the excuse to enjoy my little soft drink in peace and everyone loves me for it. so far, i've only had one person puke in my car.

There's not enough data on long term effects obviously but there are definitely hazardous chemicals in vapes that can cause collapsed lung, popcorn lung, and lipoid pneumonia

matty went to rehab for heroin years ago and afaik has stayed off that specifically although i haven’t followed the 1975 in ages so i could be wrong. i will say when they were promo-ing their third album he was upfront about his addiction & about rehab & was also very explicit about not wanting people to find his heroin use cool or glamorous. idk about his relationship to other stuff tho
