that's my problem with it too! like with potter the biggest ship war was a fucking love triangle between the three main fucking characters. with this show (and the books) literally every season is about a different, very separate, couple. like WHY are there ship wars for this show???????? like how the fuck does the success and popularity of penelope and colin and season 3 affect kate and anthony and season 2. truly fucking baffled

From what I can gather, it's just resentment because of circumstances. Polin was moved up because they rightly thought that they should capitalise on their popularity and avoid another year of Colin not realising which would frustrate the audience. So Benedict's season was pushed back and those fans decided to be vile about it, then the Kate/Anthony fans were pissed because Simone and Johnny weren't as available for season 3, nor were they able to do the same amount of promo as Nicola and Luke because of covid. So those two fan groups were desperate to see season 3 fail to prove some kind of point. And obviously that backfired because it was insanely popular so even more resentment festered. I love every couple on the show (I'm not reading the books though because I tried and they are so fucking awful I can't believe people freely admit to reading them) and though Pen/Colin are my favourite, I would never begrudge anyone else.

you sound just like me, god bless you. yeah i picked up all of that, and especially the bit where when they were announced as season 3 leads they were harassed and bullied on social so much they deactivated their twitters which was wild to me (and a shame because i saw some of their old tweets and they're just adorable hilarious goofs). people are absolutely nutjobs, they're just actors doing their jobs, like y'all acting like these two woobies rolled up to shonda's place and threatened her to make them the season 3 leads, so dumb.

pen and colin are my absolute favorite and i doubt that'll change, and i even read their book, which was a poor life decision god julia quinn's such a bad cringey ass writer lmao

Honestly, if you listened to some of them you'd think Nicola had a sniper on Shonda at all times.

Omg those books are so horrendous! When I saw people bemoaning the fact that book!Colin wasn't anything like show!Colin I could not believe it. All of the men are fucking abusive creeps and the women are written like idiots. Show Colin is one of the most beautiful male love interests I've ever seen on screen. A total prince. Shonda should get a special Emmy for turning those shitty books into such great entertainment.

girl anyone who defends book colin is a red flag and a half, that guy's a fucking lunatic. the show did the character (and benedict too because from what i heard his book version is even more of a nightmare, and kinda glad we didn't see him in book 4) such a huge service by making him a decent kind man. also i mean simon and anthony were still kinda assholes like their book counterparts so to make ALL of the same would've been tedious. glad for both colin and benedict's personality glow ups

From what I understand, Colin is the least awful out of them all - I think Anthony actually boots Kate in the stomach?! - but he's still awful and the stuff I've read about Benedict? Ewww. Maybe it's a romance novel thing and the men are always gross and abusive? I don't read romance novels so I'm not au fait with the genre, but if thats the average content, I don't want to be.

i read the book over the summer after watching the show, and the way my eyebrows rose every time i hit a point he was being grossly manipulative, mentally/verbally/physically abusive to pen, or unhinged from his anger management issues was just way too much to me. julia quinn, what have the men in your life done to you to to write such shitty ass fictional british regency guys lmao

It's insane. There are leaked photos of Benedict and Sophie's season and the first thing from their fans' mouths are insults bringing Nic and Luke down. Make it make sense lol
