Thanks for these posts OP. I've been reading your summaries and ugh, poor Riley she definitely sounds deluded. I know she loves her mom and she was raised with love but it sounds like her mother was emotionally incestuous, relied on her too much, was codependent, and also inappropriately shared romantic details and her friends (IDK if that was a joke or not), and she also parentified her.

Not surprising giving how troubled Lisa Marie is but it's funny to see how "normal" Riley seems and then read about how actually fucked up her childhood was. She and her husband seem stable at least.

My pleasure!

inappropriately shared romantic details and her friends (IDK if that was a joke or not

It was not a joke, it's said very straightforward and Riley seems to find it amusing.

Unfortunately, there is a constant of codependency between Lisa and her children, and also with Danny- Riley said in an interview that the floor came out from under them when she passed and it's unfortunately clear reading the book, everyone's lives were entwined with hers, for better or worse, with love and trauma. It's a great book, but a sad, sad one as well.

The codependency goes back to Elvis and his mom. They had a bizarre connection. And from personal experience, that shit can carry on through generations.

I agree with this and am glad you said this.

On one hand, I think Lisa Marie was the best mom she could have been with the capacity that she had. She wasn't given much growing up, and it sounds like she was a very loving mom.

But on the other hand, the enmeshment, not prioritizing her kids' education, smoking/drinking with them when they were underage, MICHAEL JACKSON...definitely issues there.

Once again thank you for these recaps OP.

This family feels like it didn't stand a chance.

You're welcome!

The book, for me, just has a sad inevitability to it that I can't really explain. Just an underlying dread.

She really had a rough life. I was intrigued by her wanting to be more hands on with raising the twins combined with her not knowing how to do basic things such as turning on the tv. I wonder how that went.

Your posts have confirmed in my mind that Priscilla really is that woman we all thought she was. Poor Lisa Marie. :(

I thought there would be more stuff about the Cage marriage, including the fact that he was cosplaying her Daddy for a good part of it.

I've said it before but I think Riley (and the publisher) had to be very, very careful about a lot of things.

You're absolutely right because they were tabloid fodder during their marriage. His obsession with everything Superman and Elvis was an open joke to many outlets; like there was open speculation at the time that it was the only reason he married her, which was super shitty. It also didn't help that he dyed his hair blue black and was sporting a pompadaur at that time like The King. You would see pap pics of them in restaurants and she would be dressed normal like and he would be in Elvis drag. Mess.

Edit: My creaky memories also tell me that the tabs reported that both Danny and Michael allegedly talked to Lisa while she was dating Nic about how they thought he wasn't with her for entirely kosher reasons, and instead she went ten toes down in the relationship and married him anyway.

Yikes, that reminds me of all those pics of Francis Bean Cobain and her first husband and how he looked and dressed like Kurt.

On one of the weekend trips on a yacht to Catalina Island, Lisa Marie and Cage got into a fight and her $60K engagement ring went overboard. They couldn't recover it but Cage bought her another more expensive one.

lol very on brand for him and why he started doing whatever movie came along

I hope they’re omitting the scientology stuff to avoid litigation and harassment like you say, and not because grief brought them back in :/
