If this had dropped before Andrew recently professed his love and admiration for a known abuser, would ONTD feel differently about Amelia going on a date with him? She asks him Snog, Marry, Avoid, between Tobey Maguire, Tom Holland and herself. He asks her what she wants in her life, marriage, kids, the lot ( Read more... )

Unpopular opinion, but her shtick doesn’t work for me. On the one hand, she’s kinda not dry enough. Plus, for that kind of dry humour to work you also have to be very witty, which….

i watched a couple of her interviews and i do like her personality but i dont find the interviews that interesting tbh. like good for her for taking off but idk why people are so enthralled with this tbh. i do like her but i agree there's some back-and-forth banter and wit that's missing (at least from like the 6 interviews i saw. and tbf that isn't all her fault because it only works as far as the guest is willing to go).

i also hate second-hand embarrassment so maybe these interviews aren't for me cause that's all i get coming out of these lol

I actually think second-hand embarrassment is what she wants you to feel

that's the impression i got too which is why the interviews are probably just not meant for me lol. i love dry humor but cannot handle second-hand embarrassment. it's made me wanna crawl in a hole lol

hahaha yeah, I think she wants to capture the awkwardness of first dates with a stranger and isn't going for a completely sarcastic/witty interview

but sometimes it can be funny, it depends on how the guest plays with it too

I've found that I like her red carpet work better than the actual show.

Same. Imo it’s because a) the briefness helps and b) it’s more flexible so if they’re not playing off her vibe she can adapt, whereas the “stuck in a bad date” setting is more restrictive.

Also in general it tends to work better with British celebrities because the sense of humour is more compatible I guess.

I like her as a person but yes, her lines in chicken shop dates are not witty enough for me so I always end up underwhelmed but I do think her shtick isn’t just very dry humor, I think you’re supposed to feel awkward and I do definitely feel that while watching so I think that’s the point, it’s very “I don’t know why I’m here dating this person so I’ll just say whatever”
