All these pictures of him when they were teens is doing something to me. Wow they were such young boys then and I feel like this industry did a number on them. Really chewed them up and spat them out.

And Liam was one of my favs when they first came out, I thought (and still think) he has a lovely voice. I also made fun of some of his solo work but I can’t imagine it was fun having a whole world laugh at your failures.

Idk this whole thing is sad.

How did the industry chew them up and spit them out? Like, their albums were hits. They had a solid five or whatever years together as a mega successful band, and then had successful solo careers (to varying degrees) after. It’s not like the industry broke them up. This is all terribly sad, but I don’t understand the point of view that somehow the business is completely to blame or did them dirty.

not everything is about career success, they are definitely emotionally bruised about being used like cash cows and had traumatic experiences that followed their success. they have talked about it.

Well that’s true, in hindsight I feel dumb at not thinking about the pressures of fame while they were young despite the success. Especially with how commercial they were, it’s not like they were some indie band with a dream. It just read to me as if though the industry had immediately discarded their worth once they broke up.

I think Harry and Zayn were the most likely to be safe and were offered good opportunities while the rest of the had to work a little bit to find their niche. sadly, Liam was too focused on projecting an image that didn't reflect who he really was, people were not really into that

they were worked past what is normal for even an adult, away from their families for months at a time, surrounded by people who enabled bad decisions they made.

Liam said management chose to lock them up alone in their rooms to "secure" them from fans, and inside those hotel rooms all they had was a minibar, he started abusing alcohol very young. He also said they had no access to someone or something to care for their mental health and what happened with Zayn is a perfect example.

Yes they're millionaires and they were/are successful, but that is not equal with happiness and it's very well known the celebrity industry always fails to protect children. Look at the Disney and Nickelodeon kids, or 90s actors.

Liam's career tanked after 1D...I was never a fan but I remember seeing posts about him here and they were kind of mocking him. I don't know much about the others but he and Zayn publicly struggled with their careers and fame. It's a hard thing for anyone to deal with, nevermind being the top boyband in the world for a while.

I think the post 1D part of their careers has been tough for a few of them. Harry’s been successful and Niall seems to have found his own lane but the others don’t seem to have really done as much musically as I think they expected to. Zayn I don’t think was able to work through whatever block made it hard for him to do performances solo. Liam especially was supposed to be ahead of the others in terms of talent but his solo career never really worked which he didn’t seem to handle well.
