It's so frustrating how people keep trying to downplay this as Simu Liu gatekeeping when the issue was always about this company pushing itself as the better, healthier option to "ethnic" bubble tea.

this happens with asian cuisine in particular. like, there have been white people who opened chinese restaurants and claimed their food was better because it was without MSG or some shit

If somebody makes my takeout without MSG, I'm never returning.

You've described every white person competing on a Food Network show cooking any sort of ethnic food.

“This is my take on [ethnic dish] but I’ve elevated it by removing all the weird ingredients, substituting ranch dressing, and adding Kraft singles.”

exactly, and the racist undertones of 'you're never sure what's in it'...

Unfortunately, there is a lot of history in how Chinese food got devalued into being considered "fast food" in the U.S. It's just racism trying to find ways into making Asian cuisine seem something "exotic," "gross," or "unhealthy."

Yeah, stupid people can’t differentiate fast food which is shitty versions of real food, and fast food which is fast to cook. Because they’re stupid. And probably racist.

And it also prevents most people making this food from being able to charge higher prices. People are totally fine paying $25 for a plate of pasta and sauce, but god forbid someone try to charge more for tacos or Chinese food. Then people start talking about how it's too expensive, you can get it for cheaper somewhere else, it's not worth the money, etc.
