I wasn't a stan of 1D but this made me tear up ngl. A lot of us grew up alongside them, they were a huge part of the 2010's and pop culture of that time. I think anytime a celebrity who is your age moves on, especially one that leaves an imprint on pop culture and a specific point in time, it's difficult to put words to why it's so affecting. Like I said, I wasn't a stan but it's just so surreal. And seeing people on Twitter say that people who they haven't spoken to in years are out of the blue contacting them bc of this... kind of shows you how big the band's music/fandom was to a lot of people.

Like a lot of people have said, I'm not excusing Liam's history. But it truly is heartbreaking to see the industry fail to take care of the younger talent it's so eager to work into the ground.

I keep on editing this comment but I found it really touching that the 1D joint statement included Zayn. I know there was drama when he left and maybe there still was residual stuff in the years following. Being their age now, it takes a lot of work to unpack events or emotions from when you were younger, and unresolved things can be very heavy to carry around. I hope all of them can find peace if that's the case.

I figured there would be a joint statement from 1D, and it never crossed my mind that Zayn wouldn't be part of it. He may have left early, but he was part of what made the band was it was. He shared the initial build up and onslaught of fame with all of them. He's as much 1D as any of them.

I wasn't surprised he was included and maybe "touching" isn't the right word bc you're right, he was part of the band. I just know there was a point in time where the other members wouldn't mention him because of how he exited.

He didn't want to be a part of them more than anything. Even if he wasn't mentioned in the statement it would have been his choice, not theirs.

1D was never the same without the Human Echo ❤️ it was never going to work well without them all, it's fitting that they stuck together with their statement even despite zayn's early departure.

yeah, i got so many messages from people telling me the news because they knew how much i loved 1d. that's never happened for any other celebrity death/incident before.
