This news is so shocking. I haven’t followed him in forever but I used to love 1D. It must be a struggle to go from a boy band that was on top and loved to struggling as a solo artist. Besides Harry (and Zayn I guess), the others seem to have found their market with a smaller audience but Liam seemed to crave that high again? He still had his fans though. He said the band was made around him as the lead and he probably expected that same amount of fame.

Also, I saw a video yesterday of Louis mom (rip) and Liam’s mom talking about their sons cut out board in a store and how proud she was of him. It’s so sad.

Liam clearly struggled a lot with Harry being sucessful after while he....flopped. At least is what his ex's book seem to indicate

edit sorry i'm still very shocked and writing everything wrong idec

Yeah, I think Simon told him he was going to be the lead/face of the band in the beginning ..so I think he may have been struggling even during 1D times when Harry and others became fan favourites ahead of him.
Fame like that must be so hard to deal with.

yeah he always believed he was the one. But then Harry took over......and became VERY sucessful after they split. It's tough.

Theoretically Liam had the face card…but on stage and personably he was very wooden.

I am no Harry Styles nor a 1 Direction fan either, but I can see why Harry made it while Liam didn’t.

Harry just had the X Factor - the charisma-the moxie of what makes a star a star.

Liam was a handsome lad, but he also reminded me of the hottest guy in high school. The hot guy in high school usually hit their peak during that time, but usually failure to launch after.

Liam could absolutely sing and he was talented. I also think he had a little bit of charisma, he wasn't void of it (like Zayn was lol sorry but Zayn was always so boring, and later on, an asshole plain and simple) but he was still missing the IT factor that Harry always had. And I don't think he ever learned how to deal with that. :/

I wonder if he had gone the more Michael Buble, crooner route he would've achieved more success.

People keep saying this but his first post 1D single was very successful. He just didn’t have the IT needed, didn’t really have a team to cultivate his image, was an easy target online and was struggling with mental health and addiction.

Yeah but a crooner career would've probably had the possibility of a longer shelf life

Yeah I didn't follow 1D closely but I remember fans saying that while Liam had probably the best voice, he was very boring as a performer while Harry def shined a bit more.

It's unfortunate but it was always pretty obvious Harry and Zayn would be the ones to have the solo success from JUMP!

But Niall and Louis have done well for themselves too so I feel like maybe it all got Liam's head knowing that he was supposed to be the star whereas the other 2 kinda knew~ their place and expectation and worked from that.

It also probably didn’t help that he was comparing himself to them too. Harry with his “eclectic” tastes and Zayn with a more exotic vibe (before we found out that he was an abusive mysogynist)

When your colleagues both have a leg up in the industry cuz of their selling factor, it is pretty much inevitable but to compare yourself to them…especially if the X Factor was stacking Liam to failure. To create a boy band around this bloke, saying he’s the actual star, lying through their teeth to stroke his ego….it just seems so covertly sinister to feed into an insecure star’s delusions of fame.

I was never a 1D fan so this is honestly just speculation but from what I've read over the past few days, it seems like Liam had already fallen into addiction before 1D ended. That probably at least somewhat hindered his ability to show up for the work needed to really move a solo career forward.

Yeah, it seems he was already drinking heavily during that time (if not more)

He's spoken about it, it's true.

simon also cut him from the x factor at 14 and told him to come back and his audition the 1d year (when he was 16) was this whole “coming back stronger” / fulfilling-his-promise narrative…. truly insane thing to do psychologically to someone that young. he also seems to have been a very lonely kid so 1d was also his first time having, like, friends? there was a line from his mom i think in their doc about just a couple years earlier he couldn’t get anyone to come to his birthday party… i think he had the least of a support system outside 1d itself.

that's sad to know. I was never that into Liam so I confess I don't know a lot. To me he was just the pretty face dumb as rocks kid. I was also surprised with all the domestic abuse things with his ex. It's sad to think he became this terrible human being and had not time to redeem himself.
