I can’t get over how tragic this is. Maybe not in the sense that he was some great guy and it’s a big loss for humanity - but he was a big part of a lot of people’s adolescence, he had a kid, he had a family. It’s such a huge and shocking death and everything around it is just sad.

Agree with all of this. It’s shocking and tragic with horrifying details.

I don’t know how to verbalise this exactly but I hate how it’s sometimes only extreme events like this that make me appreciate how precious life is and what a gift to live is. Like the idea that everyone is so fragile, that this could essentially happen to anyone standing on a balcony (god forbid), and that there is sometimes only a split second (accidental) decision that separates life and death.

this makes sense and i agree with it. it's alarming seeing someone post on social media and then less than an hour later they make one decision (that they may not have fully realized they were making, or at least the consequences of it) they're just gone. it's harrowing, especially since like you said it can and does happen to anyone

Yeah, we're mostly water. Squishy and vulnerable. Reminding myself of this has helped me immensely when it comes to appreciating life and having great respect for health and safety. We only get one shot at this.

”We only get one shot at this.”

Idk why but this sentiment always shakes me to my core. There’s no redo, one wrong decision and we’re gone forever.

I know someone whose son was at a rooftop party in NYC and accidentally tripped and fell to his death. Certainly was drinking, don’t think it was anything else so just a normal party situation. I’ve never liked balconies or rooftops but especially always try to be careful when it comes to heights and drinking. Even sober, I stay far away from the edge of anything.

I know what you mean. A few weeks ago, a broadway actor named Gavin Creel passed away after a short battle with a rare cancer. I was a theater kid so he was a huge part of my teenage years. He was so incredibly talented and by all accounts an absolutely lovely person. It just really devastated me to see that someone so seemingly full of life could be taken so quickly. It’s something we always know, that life is short and tomorrow is never promised, but like you said, we don’t always process the knowledge until something extreme happens.

I also love musical theatre and was so incredibly sad and shocked by Gavin Creel’s passing. The amount of Instagram posts in the theatre community calling Gavin a friend and the kindest person each with their own story really showed how generous and amazing he was.

My neighbor and I were talking about this early this morning. How utterly tragic this is.

i think its normal to feel that way when its sudden, and shocking, and the person is so young, regardless of who they are or even if you're really a fan. someone with their whole life ahead of them, with their health, their career, with accolades and fame. a split second and its all gone. Naya Rivera, Anton Yelchin...the sadness is in could have and should have been. its a reminder of how fragile we all are.

I was never into One Direction but the shock I felt when I saw the post here, was something physical. I remember feeling the same when I heard about Naya.

Same. I was too old to be into 1D but he's been in celeb news so much lately for his behavior that I really thought it was a hoax. It showed up in my twitter feed from PopCrave of all places, and I thought it was one of those fake accounts that make their feed look like PC to spread stupid/silly/goofy shit about celebrities. It felt like an actual punch in the gut when I saw it on ONTD a few minutes later.

I honestly thought it was some weird joke too. ONTD is the only place I really look for celeb news so I thought I was going to read more and it be like social/career death not literal!

i also thought it was a joke. i had opened instagram and variety posted his photo saying he died and i said are you kidding me, this isnt real. i immediately began shaking once it hit me for some reason too

its also sad to think about but we had a post about hikm the day before, and we were mentioning that he does not look well. then this happens, its all just so tragic.
