Cynthia Erivo has reacted to viral edits of the ‘WICKED’ poster:
“This is the wildest, most offensive thing I have seen, equal to that awful AI of us fighting… Our poster is an homage not an imitation, to edit my face & hide my eyes is to erase me. That is just deeply hurtful”

I honestly think the critiques of the poster are completely valid overall anyway: the Broadway poster isn’t just iconic because it’s old, it’s because the smirk and eyes covered were both really captivating and mysterious and did a fantastic job at starting the theme of retelling the story of a nominally “wicked” character. If Cynthia is saying part of the reason it is “offensive” to edit this poster is because she made a purposeful acting choice, she is also suggesting that critiquing her acting is not permissible, which is equally wild. I’m not someone to whine about posters and trailers not being good enough or to really think “the fans are always right.” But when a fan account posts a totally benign edit that aligns with a famous original poster, maybe bitch in the cast groupchat about it and by all means feel free to not praise or repost it. But this reaction seems really disproportionate and unfair to that account.
