I mean, idg why people would even want to do stuff like this in the first place. Attention? For her, specifically, to get the job?

exactly a year ago i was super sick & almost died from sepsis and kidney failure and it was absolutely horrible, but the amount of care and understanding i received from the people around me was so nice. i actually was like "i think i understand munchausens now because if i wasn't actually feeling SO horribly physically this might be nice." but of course that attention and care is very fleeting. once you recover enough to get back to a "normal" life, people kind of expect you to just get on with things, albeit with some limitations or accommodations. so that's why people who pretend to be sick have to keep one upping themselves and making up more and more ailments.

my only lingering complication is foot drop from some sciatic nerve damage, probably from how i was positioned in the hospital bed. it might be permanent and no doctors can give me any definitive answers but i'm managing just fine!

Attention, feeling important, getting out of responsibilities she didn't want (nobody expects a person with cancer to participate in every work meeting), sometimes also money.
