I think American Halloween really is the best thing this country has going for it. It actually is really fun and doesn't come with all the family/religious obligations of most holidays, so your only real responsibility is to have a good time :)

As someone's who has done it, you will have your best life. The weather is great, everyone gets dressed up, parties everywhere in the streets, etc. People start partying days before too so if Halloween falls on a Tuesday that year the weekend before and Monday iss all sorts of crazy. People's pets get dressed up too.

Go everywhere, eat everything, do the tours. I can vouch for the following:

French Quarter Phantoms: They offer an assortment of different tours. I went on the Garden District and the Saints and Sinners tours and both were fun and informative and the prices are good. Note: The Saints and Sinners Tour is very adult in nature so if that doesn't yack your yum there are other tours to choose from.

Ghost City Tours: Another top NOLA company, and I recommend them because they also offer cemetary tours. You cannot get into St. Louis #1 (where all of the interesting people are buried) without being a part of a tour group, and it's fun. In addition, the "Ghosts of New Orleans" is a fun time if you do it Halloween night, while
