October 9, 2024 Two new Pride & Prejudice adaptations were announced this week. Firstly, the BBC shared they are getting back in the Austen game. Sarah Quintrell (The Power) will write a ten-part series for the channel, though the series is not a straight adaptation of Austen's most famous novel. It is instead based on The Other Bennet Sister by Janice Hadlow, which follows middle sister Mary Bennet. Bad Wolf, the production company behind Doctor Who, is already on board.
Netflix, meanwhile, was apparently not content with only making a mess of Persuasion. The
streamer will now also be adapting Pride & Prejudice. The project has not been officially greenlit, but it is in development. Dolly Alderton (Everything I Know About Love) will turn the novel into a 10-episode series.
This is actually the second time in a little over three years that Netflix has taken a run at a Pride & Prejudice adaptation. They
announced a modern adaptation called The Netherfield Girls, starring Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, back in 2021. It seems that one fell apart in development.
