y'all the count of monte cristo was legit one of my faves of the year lol. i get some of the criticisms on an adaptational level but it was SO much damn fun. the 3 hours absolutely flew by and the friend i went with, who knew nothing at all going in, agreed she would have been happy to watch even more of it. the heist caper feel they leaned into was a blast. [Spoiler (click to open)]i loved the way they turned haydée and andré-not-benedetto into revenge siblings in this lmao. my girl mercédès got a way better ending in this than the book. her bleak "this is all my fault for making the logical conclusion you were dead!" final chapter made me so mad lol, so the bittersweet ending of her being the one to get the "wait and hope" letter was a whole lot better to me. i did really miss haydée's big court monologue and i thought they skimmed over her past too quickly (my friend needed me to explain it after). i get why they cut maximilien and basically split him into albert and andré... but it cracked me up when they made a point of introducing him as a child and then he's never seen again. the makeup was incredible, on a smaller note. there's lots more i could say, but tl;dr i'm excited to watch it again.

also caught up on a few other things on my movie watchlist: sing sing (great performances, incredible story), the queen of my dreams (this was great, though the ending felt kind of abrupt), and it's what's inside (visually cool but hard to think about for too long, and i was just like "please just dump your loser boyfriend" for a lot of it).

i know in my heart that i will be a sucker for we live in time. also the joker 2 disaster is bad for theatres, but also like... lol @ the worst fans of the first one being all "is this fucking play about us?.jpg" (not that i'm team todd phillips either, let them fight)

the way they made me absolutely hate his character within five minutes was actually kind of impressive!!! between this role + the role the same actor played on The Sex Lives of College Girls, just seeing his face makes me mad. lol.

lol i had to go look him up because it was like i'd blocked his tslocg character out! i knew his face but could not place him at all

Sing Sing wrecked me in the best way. Such a cathartic gorgeous movie experience.
