VP Harris on 60 Minutes, Trump Flakes

For more than half a century, the major party candidates for president have sat down with 60 Minutes. This year, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump accepted our invitation. Unfortunately, last week Trump canceled.

predictably terrible answer about Israel - is it important to stop them killing people? well sure maybe, but it's way more important to keep America's fingers in that real estate! and hilarious tone-deaf non-response about gun control. law enforcement is uh, some of the last people we should be giving guns to, since they're so eager to misuse them.

anyway, glad I dropped off my ballot yesterday so I can be fucking done with the anxiety about my vote. here's hoping we still have a country in 2025! can't do shit about any of these issues if we're all on fire!

She carries a gun because she got so many death threats when she was a prosecutor in San Francisco. She prosecuted the most violent criminals, drug cartels and child trafficking gangs. Her life was constantly in danger.

I didn't see that as a gun control question. She's been crystal clear about gun control and wants a new assault weapons ban. She's the person who put cameras on cops and made sure they have to keep them turned on (before her order, cops would turn their camera off as soon as they got out of their cars).

She also created a database in California so that if a cop got fired for being a bad cop, he couldn't just go from Riverside to San Diego and get a job on another police force. She was the most progressive Attorney General California has ever had.

Look, I'm voting for Kamala but there's nothing wrong with making valid criticisms of her flaws. It's tonedeaf at best to tout gun ownership all nudge-wink as transparent pandering without acknowledging in the moment the deep problem of gun violence in America and her plans to address it (yes I know she supports gun control). And that's not to mention her lip service to Israel's genocidal actions. People can be concerned about her without supporting Trump or dismissing the clear and present danger he represents.

Is this new information? No one with a functioning brain could think the Democratic candidate is going to come out with a foreign policy opinion that contradicts that of the current administration she's part of. It's never going to happen.

People can be concerned and they can also be realistic. I see very little realism in these comments.

I still consider Kamala a part of the Biden admin and they should collectively have a better policy. It may be that realistic take is that this is a genocide, but the geopolitical “benefits” of having a (now rogue and effectively useless) ally in the Middle East takes precedence, but we can all acknowledge that sucks.
