Madonna's brother Christopher Ciccone, who appeared on her arm at so many events and danced behind her at many early solo club gigs, died Friday after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer. He was 63.
Matthew Rettenmund posted a loving tribute to Ciccone, whose close but complicated relationship to his famous sister is well-known among longtime Madonna fans, to his Boy Culture blog.
Serving as artistic director of Madonna's landmark 1990 Blonde Ambition Tour, Ciccone's dual role as family member and employee led to discord between the siblings, as was extensively aired in his tell-all memoir Life with My Sister Madonna in 2008. The book put their relationship on ice for years, but by all accounts, they had reconciled long ago.
Ciccone was preceded in death by his mother Madonna Louise (d. 1963), brother Anthony (d. 2023) and stepmother Joan, who died of complications from liver cancer on September 24.
Madonna's brother Christopher Ciccone died October 4 at 63 of cancer. RIP. I think you may find my remembrance of him more palatable than TMZ's.
