Hollywood Continues to Crash and Burn by Resorting to Focus Groups

Studios are assembling superfan focus groups to assess various materials for a franchise project to avoid social media backlash.

Studios need to focus on making good movies instead of patting themselves on the back for checking off a list of boxes they feel obligated to include all the time.

Also, slightly related, but there's this sentiment that hollywood doesn't make original stuff, and resorts to remakes, sequels, or recognizable IP.

While yes, they do that, there's also no shortage of original, interesting content put out every year. BUT NOBODY BOTHERS TO SUPPORT IT.

Just write a decent script. And hire actors who can delivery it competently. Focus on narratives that are entertaining. People don't watch movies/tv for 'messaging'. They can get that from documentaries or TED talks ffs. People want escapism. Not preaching.

And cut out the nepotism. Hire people with actual talent.

Honestly, this shit isn't rocket science.

idk why you're being downvoted.
People love a message. They do. But so many recent stuff is heavy handed and blatantly ticking boxes at the cost of making an actual good film or show.
And its unfortunate that vocal minority reactions have turned people off if they see or hear about ONE "progressive" approach to a thing. They may be writing off excellent stuff.

IA.

Ask someone IRL what was the last original movie they say. They're gonna name something that was based off of a book that they didn't realize was a book probably, or go "I can't remember".

Ask how many people saw Abigail or Monkey Man. Go on. The best you might get is a Ghibli Re-release.

Well yeah, but if you want to go to the movies in my town, there aren't a ton of options. Smaller movies don't have the push of big money and aren't released that widely. It's a vicious circle.
