It wastes the talented cast (even though some of the acting is awful), the writing is tired and boring and the sets are so incredibly cheap looking. It is directionless.
I think this was the last ep for me - while the overall quality is I suppose better than She-Hulk this is the 2nd MCU tv show (after SH) I will drop.
(The MCU shows are mostly to blame for the downfall of the movies as well.)
It's funny you say they look cheap since they went full practical and built all the sets and miniatures of the houses etc vs doing the full CGI stage like the other Marvel stuff has been doing recently. Guess they really can't win lol
i think ultimately the need to have everything fit visually with the marvel “house style” is always gonna be a limit and “okay looking” is likely to be the best we’re gonna get. the only exception i can really think of is ms. marvel, which no one watched but me but which had an actual distinctive visual flair (and i guess the sitcom parts of wandavision)…. idk why they let them do that or how the creators worker within the mcu style to make stuff look good anyway but i wish it would happen more often! this one has costumes & sets going for it but it’s still shot to look like a marvel product, so it doesn’t look great. (i don’t have the technical knowhow to understand what it is that makes the mcu look all samey to me and whenever i see someone explain it a bunch of other people claim they’re wrong and idk who to believe lol)
i like the show more than i expected but i support you being a hater… i feel like it’s good by disney marvel standards but not really compared to like, real TV shows that are good in real life.
you bringing up she hulk is interesting because that was a show where i honestly really liked the concept and sometimes something fun would happen but overall it was just so aggressively mediocre… i was like, i can see the version of this show that i like but you guys forgot to make it. it felt like a rough draft almost… like okay you worked out your plot beats now can you go back and put some actual funny jokes in your superhero sitcom? this one is less bad but there is a similar situation of like, “i see what you’re going for and i like what you’re going for, but the execution feels really bare minimum in the writing” (although unlike both shehulk and wanda agatha has an identifiable personality beyond Girl, which is a plus)
I hear yoouuu! All the elements are there for this to be perfection, but is being forced to fit into the episodic format and it screws up the pacing. It’s like HBO creative direction with daytime quality editing.
Why can't this show be good?
