That's a different son he had with Isabelle Adjani. This son was born a couple years later by Rebecca Miller, Arthur Miller's daughter.

His longest periods without a credit were about 5 years, and it's already been 7 years since Phantom Thread, so some people were taking him at his word. But yeah, not totally unexpected, except most people probably thought it would be PTA or Scorsese to tempt him back.
