Rhodes scholar, actor, and country musician Kris Kristofferson has died at the age of 88.

The Brownsville, Texas, native wrote such classic standards as "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down" and "Help Me Make it Through the Night."

Some of Kristofferson's acting roles include 1974’s Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, the 1976 version of A Star Is Born, and Marvel's Blade (1998).

He retired from performing and recording in 2021.
