I get not everyone is in a rush to get married but engaged for 12 years is crazy. Like surely there'd be a point before that where you'd think hmm...he's not gonna marry me.

The ex kind of looks like Lana pre-surgery.

I don't know how old he is but I know a couple that were engaged like that because they got engaged early in uni and never had the funds to do anything about it. They did get engaged later though so the first time was more of a promise ring situation

TY! A man who loves you is not going to be engaged to you for that long

I have friends who’ve been engaged for ten years, it’s honestly because they decided to buy a house so they can’t afford the type of wedding their fam expects of them. (Not posh just a lot of people. The guest list was 300 people last I knew because they both have big extended families)

More cultures/people should adopt the mindset of asking for wedding money instead of gifts. It's expected for people in my culture to invite A LOT of extended family, people we have never even met living in another country. Thanks to money gift, most of the time, the wedding is paid for or at least the party is paid for. We also don't have an open bar like so many weddings have in North America.

Open bar being an expectation in the US is WILD to me. Where I live we pay for the venue, drinks reception, food and table wine at dinner. Anything from the bar is up to the guest.

Yeah honestly him being engaged for 12 years then marrying the next one fast is the least shocking part of this story to me!!!

My former neighbor is in his early 80s & he's been engaged to his fiancée, who's in her 70s, for at least 10 years because she gets benefits (including something from her late husband's job) that she'd loose if she got married.
The engagement is a statement of their feelings for/commitment to each other.
