We don't know the specifics but I also can't fault the host for looking at the material and going this is not funny, I'm not doing this. Writing on SNL has been shit for years and years and it's baffling to me that the writing team delivers the material the night before the shoot. This is more reflective of the poor management/showrunning (Lorne Michaels who runs a sweatshop by the looks of it) than the actual host.

There's ways and ways of giving negative feedback though. No one needs to be made to feel worthless unless they're assholes themselves I guess.

but where does it say that they were being assholes about it? I mean bowen clarified that it was more reflective of the stressful working environment than the host themselves. he's clearly emphasizing the story, I doubt that the celebrity went into the writers room and told everyone "I fucking hate this" verbatim. they didn't like it and didn't want to do it so the sketches had to be rewritten and that was the tipping point for the writers who were writing said sketches until wee hours of the morning.

all I'm saying is that this needs to managed a lot better. present your material to the host well in advance and not the night before the show so that if they don't like it and want changes to be made, writers won't have to suffer a nervous breakdown in order to accommodate them.

But saying you don’t like something is a fair statement.

It’s not like they said “this person is a terrible writer, you should fire them.” Or were yelling.

I don’t think the actor or even the writer is wrong. You’re allowed to not like something and you’re allowed to be emotional when your work is criticized.

There’s a lot (prob like 95% at this point lol) of snl sketches I’d hate to have to star in, but Bowen did answer this in response to the worst host behavior he ever witnessed so I think both things are true here - the environment is beyond shit and also the person was an asshole.

but he also backtracked and clarified that this wasn't reflective of the celebrity in question but the environment itself. I seriously doubt that this celebrity went to the writers themselves and said "I fucking hate this" to their faces.

Nah, he backtracked cause he's trying not to ruffle feathers I bet. I'm sure the comedy community is so small that you can't infer something without others noticing or thinking you're a tattletale, so he watered down his comment.

A tattletale? Oh please what is this, kindergarten?

What's a better word, then? English isn't my first language (or second)

The business is petty enough and Bowen has mentioned he has to tone down scathing comments before.
