"One of those points of view is about what he calls 'beige guilt.' Brown people, he says in his new stand-up special, are more racist than white people."

Bruh, keep it.

Even if he had a point, people need to stop using racist and prejudiced interchangeably

It's astounding when people can't tell the difference. That's probably why they believe reverse racism is a thing.

Omg I had to explain to a white person last week that "reverse racism" wasn't real. Source: me and I am white.

It's honestly most compelling when it's someone who looks like you who tells you why your line of thinking isn't okay. Need more white folks setting white folks straight, good on you.

I think it's because the way it was taught to kids in the 80's/90's/00's used "racism" and "prejudice" pretty interchangeably and it wasn't until the late 00's/10's that the "academic" (as it was called when it first appeared) def of "racism" appeared that took power into consideration. So basically all of Gen X and Millenials grew up with one defintion while youngers are getting a much more nuanced one and it's causing a lot of confusion.

I don't know if he's trying to obliquely reference anti-Blackness that exists in poc communities, but terming it as a kind of "guilt" isn't it.

I have an issue with the term "__ guilt" because I feel it's often misused these days to absolve someone in a dominant group from making an effort to confront their ingrained prejudices towards people their society has wronged. idk maybe I'm overthinking it.

You could be right that Minhaj is speaking to a Brown audience and trying to call them in, but I'm so skeptical! Whenever comedians face a little heat, they always pivot right. Like clockwork!

also, as a person who was born and raised in north america from immigrant parents i would hope that he would be able to be more enlightened on the fact that many immigrants are trying to fit in so they adopt the prejudices of the 'ruling class' (and are more susceptible to racist rhetoric and stereotyping in an effort to "fit in") and make some kind of enlightened comment on that then just the standard, "minorities are more racist than white people" shit.
