ONTD is one of the only places on the internet where people are correctly misandrist and sensitive to gratuitous violence against women. I'm not even a fan of horror movies, but the whole point of the genre is somebody gets tortured. Casting Hugh Grant (noted for playing nice guy roles) as the villain in a movie like this is genius and thought-provoking because missionaries are bad which makes him a villain with a point. With respect to the content of the film, I can't comment on it because I haven't seen it but yes, I'm all for psychological torture of missionaries in art.
I know some people's feminism hasn't evolved past "men bad, girls good" but I definitely encourage you to branch out and consider context and nuance. And my apologies if this comment was just about you meeting your scoldy quota for the day. Carry on.
Again, I've only watched the trailer, but the whole conceit of the film is "If you don't go around trying to convert strangers to your religion, maybe you'll reduce your chances of being tortured by the stranger if you quit your proselytizing!" Again, I'm ~sew random~ but like, wanting to see things explored in art doesn't mean you're calling for them in the real world. Also, the majority of men that pose a threat to women IRL are men they know!
I think the older guy luring young girls into his house under false pretenses and kidnapping them is *maybe* more predatory than the girls in this situation?
