Seven years before appearing
on ‘The Bachelorette,’ contestant Devin Strader faced an arrest and a restraining order from an ex.

“As exhaustive as our vetting process is, this protective order did not surface in our searches,” a source tells VF. https://t.co/VyryQNOSmE

Two weeks ago, viewers of ABC's The Bachelorette tuned in to watch Jenn Tran, the show's first Asian bachelorette, choose her final man. The guy she chose, Devin Strader, ended up humiliating her and ghosting her. Audiences were horrified by his actions, but they are now even more horrified by the revelation that Strader had a restraining order and arrest record from seven years ago, when he allegedly stalked, choked, spit on, and burglarized his ex-girlfriend.

The woman, whose identity is anonymous, filed a restraining order against him in 2017. After receiving the order, Strader allegedly returned to her home and set the order on fire in her front yard. Later, Louisiana police arrested him for breaking into her apartment and destroying her property. He pleaded guilty to criminal trespass and damage to property under $500.

So, how the fuck did ABC cast Devin Strader with this history? No one fucking knows! The restraining order had been sealed from public record, but the afadavit for his burglary arrest was still public, and it discusses the details of the restraining order.

Full details of his "alleged" abuse:

The woman claimed that Strader:
  • Grabbed her and put his hand over her mouth
  • Spit on her
  • Threw a drink on her
  • Shattered her window
  • Threw her phone so hard that it made a hole in the wall
  • Banged on her door and screamed at her
  • Broke into her home
  • Ransacked her bedroom
  • Stole a diamond necklace that he gave her
  • Set the restraining order on fire in her front yard

Another heartbreaking detail is that the woman went to the courthouse to file charges, learned that it could be a felony offense, and decided that she didn't want to ruin Strader's life. That day, he allegedly broke into her home, prompting her to file the restraining order.

I don't think I can keep watching this show. They hate women so much, especially women of color. Poor Jenn.
