idk this trope doesn't bother me so much.

i know Age Gap Discourse is very much A Thing on this website, but my parents had 13 year age gap. they met when my mom was in her 30s, they didn't have kids until my mom was 37 and then 39 when i came along as a surprise.

liam hemsworth is 34. idc if it's 10 years or 13 years or 23 years like it is in the case of liam and laura's age gap here. if the youngest partner is over 30 and the older partner is a decade or two older, what's the fucking problem? if you have a problem with it, you are infantilizing a grown person that is not very far from middle age and you are calling the older partner a pedo. i'm not talking about adults who met their future partners when they were still children. i'm talking about two consenting adults who entered a relationship and are happy together. like this is supposed to be a comedic scene:

Yeah, I don't have a problem with this age gap LOL. My parents have a substantial age gap, too, so I get it (although it's the typical man older than wife by a number of years). Maybe that's why I am attracted to guys in their 40s/50s in my mid 30s... Welp, adding that to "discuss with therapist" list lmao.

I think the age gap in this is not even remotely an issue, it's just the weird set up of her being a blocked writer and this youthful guy coming in to reinvigorate her or whatever in this foreign location that feels sort of embarrassingly more like the writer's fantasy than an actual good set up for a movie (the age gap is not a problem, our cultural obsession with youth is - though it's possible to make an interesting movie out of that). If there were an actual plot like she meets a rival writer who challenges her, or if there was anything more unexpected than two hot people cheating on their partners I might be more interested. But maybe there will be more to it than this trailer reveals ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I did like the Dressmaker since it also had the element of Kate Winslet's character sticking it to her close-minded hometown. I think I just don't care for romances where there's no other plot? Lol

yeah I find the whole ~exotic local that is slightly dangerous trope gross and racist, I'm not into that part. The romance/age gap I'm fine with.

I almost completely agree, but I also do think there can still be power disparities that happen with age gaps (differences in pay, life experience, whatever) and if someone repeatedly seeks them out, that's weird to me. Like your Leo example.

However perhaps that's because my own father repeatedly has dated people around 30, even as he has aged, so the age gap keeps getting bigger and bigger 😂 Always some baggage with this discourse.

But in the pairing in this movie's case really the only issue is social stigma, as you said they're both full adults.
