Harvey Weinstein (72) was taken to Bellevue Hospital on Sunday night after complaining about chest pain. He underwent pericardiocentesis surgery Monday morning to alleviate a significant amount of fluid from his lungs and heart. After recovering in ICU in non-critical condition, he was moved from the Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward to the West Facility at Rikers Island. He was previously admitted to the hospital in 2020 for chest pains and had a stent inserted to unblock an artery. In July of this year, he tested positive for COVID and double pneumonia. He also has high blood pressure and diabetes.
This latest emergency came days before Weinstein was due in court, where prosecutors have been presenting evidence to a grand jury regarding three previously uncharged allegations against Weinstein -- two sexual assaults in the mid-2000s and another sexual assault in 2016 (a different article I read said that the grand jury is seeing evidence about an alleged sexual assault that occurred sometime in a four-month time period between late 2005 and mid-2006 in a lower Manhattan residential building so I'm not sure if there's a second pending case too?).
More than 100 people have made rape and misconduct allegations about Weinstein dating back to the late 1970s.
