digital character from aespa's universe releases new single!

Sep 10, 2024 08:00

For those who have followed aespa's digital universe (Kwangya) the "person" they sometimes sing about has launched her own music career! I guess this way SM doesn't have to pay an idol. In the video she's described as an AI who wants to enter the human world. This is interesting in part because aespa hasn't used their digital versions for some time ( Read more... )

who asked for this, computers and technology, new music post, cpop / jpop / kpop

on a similar note, I know that the virtual idol group Plave has had some big hits but like IDGI. I DON'T GET THE APPEAL OF VIRTUAL IDOLS.

Maybe i am just too old

ngl plave have some songs i liked, but it blows my mind that people are so invested in them. like they have an actual fandom, they've won music shows, they're in competition to win music shows etc. people actually pay to have fancalls with a literal animated cartoon on the screen.

i am way too old for this lmao.

But Plave isn't remotely the same??? Plave are basically vtubers. They write and choreograph their own songs, there's no AI. (also I'm happy for one of the members because I liked his previous failed real-life group)
or do you just mean the whole avatar thing in general? ehh I don't really mind. The idol media scene is so different from the late 00s early 10s. There are no more variety shows with lots of intermingling so it's not like that's a big drawback for them. and I was never into kpop for the looks/'sex appeal' of idols anyway.

I mean I don't think Naevis is made with AI either, lol. They're describing her as an AI but that's more of a like lore thing, from my understanding? An AI trying to enter the human world instead of being like actually made using AI. She's the same as Plave, a virtual idol.

Which is just... not my thing. I LOVE going to concerts and that kind of interaction and play between idol and fan and while obviously there is always some degree of artifice when it comes to idols (they're portraying an idealized version of themselves) it just feels like EXTRA artificial when there's the avatar element. So it just doesn't appeal to me.

I think a big part of the appeal of PLAVE is that they're quite fun to watch on their live streams. It really builds on the parasocial part of kpop fandom these days. Apparently they're all former idols? I'm guessing they belonged to nugu groups or they've aged out of the boy group age demo.

Their music doesn't appeal to me, but I have watched some of their livestreams bc they have so much fun.

There’s MAVE but I have yet to hear new singles other than Pandora, maybe I’ve been living in the matrix. There’s also Superkind, they have two Ai/Digital Idols in their group lol
