a mental-health startup

i don't suppose we could get socialized medicine to replace venture capitalist-funded apps that spy on users and sell their data? or fuck over both the mental health professionals and patients? BetterHelp, HeadSpace... all of them can get fucked.

also all the money people are expected to spend on insurance and they barely cover mental health if at all? 99% of people cannot afford to pay $20,000 or more for weekly visits to a therapist with a PhD.

A mental health startup is a thing that just should not exist. America has the most expensive and worst healthcare compared to similar countries. I hate it here

i have to make an appointment for a diagnostic mammogram and the lady at my ob/gyn was like, "brace yourself, insurance doesn't cover diagnostic mammograms, only screenings."

like... what.

i also have to pay out of pocket for one MRI every year.

At one point I entirely lost my mental health insurance due to hitting my “cap” after a facility maxed it out in handful of months, convinced me I had a problem I didn’t (yay! Thanks for adding to my issues), and then basically kicked me to the curb with no further help offered. The Affordable Care Act nullified that, but… I very much need therapy to deal with my trauma, but from my experience, therapists through insurance are not that great and I’ve had more success paying OoP, but the state I’ve moved to is $100 at least a session OoP and anyone that specializes in the kind of help I need have wait lists. So I’m pretty much white knuckling it and trying to find modalities to help myself. It shouldn’t be so fucking difficult to access quality mental health care.

i live in one of the most expensive cities in america and the clinical therapists are triple that...

i found one where you pay out of pocket but they will electronically submit forms for you to your insurance provider

i think my insurance covers... 10 appointments jfc, i couldn't even go once a month if i relied on my insurance for sessions. this is new insurance tho, so we shall see is my ACA silver plan covers more or less
