In 2021, Harper came out as transgender. Will admitted that he didn’t know much about the trans community prior to Harper’s transition but that after she told him and some other friends, they wanted to know “How can we help you? What do you need us to do?”
They decided to take a cross country road trip to “process this new stage of their relationship in an intimate portrait of friendship, transition, and America,” which resulted in this documentary. Will said that he sees the film as an opportunity for the cis community to learn about and support trans individuals.
The film will receive a limited theatrical release in the United States on September 13, 2024, before streaming worldwide on Netflix on September 27.
