It’s a little sad yeah. His own parents were basically stealing money from him but then tried to blame it on their financial people and as if they were financially illiterate. Here’s the thing - the most courteous interpretation is that his parents didn’t understand money or handling such large amts, but they sure didn’t try to make much right after being made aware of the misappropriation of Gary’s money.
And the most insidious part (that I never knew) is that his own parents tried to get Gary under a c-ship! They exploited his medical conditions (with his kidneys) to argue that he was not capable of caring for himself. But luckily the courts saw through that. But yeah Gary didn’t have any contact for years with his parents before his death. His parents actually agreed to be interviewed for the doc.
One of the only ones who really seemed to have Gary’s own best interest at heart was his business manager from the 80s and until Gary moved to Utah in the late ‘00s. Gary also had a girlfriend who seemed fairly decent before Gary then moved to Utah and met another woman he later married - the latter of which turned pretty volatile.
It’s a bit sad yeah but an honest and fair take on his life imo.
umm... it was a yes or no question. Just kidding! Thank you for the wonderfully detailed reply. I don't know why but I can't push play on docs about celebs I grew up with. I watched the Whitney Houston doc and it gave me the blues. So I'm still sitting on the Sinead O'Connor doc, and now Gary. I'd say I'm saving them for a rainy day but that would probably be the worst time to watch.
Sorry lol. I just realized I probably gave some things away you probably would’ve rather learned while watching. My bad.
I haven’t watched the Sinead doc for similar reasons because I know it’ll make me sad. But I didn’t know too much about Gary going in so I didn’t know what to expect.
