I "missed" this when it happened because of my age, but looking back I was surprised at how much evidence there was that abuse did happen. Like, my perception of it was always monster evil children kill their innocent doting parents for cash rather than, wow, they were likely abused.

same. i never read too much about it but i got the same impression. did not know until this post that there was actual evidence of abuse. :(

Same. It wasn’t until I saw a doc maybe 2-3 gears ago where I really started to realize how abused they were

yeah, i remember this case all over the news and it never came off like they were victims. they were evil men who killed their sweet parents. then i got older and uh. i'm on their side now.

yeah, it was portrayed so differently at the time. i remember they were the butt of so many jokes. same with john wayne and lorena bobbitt. i didn't know the real stories until much later. the media wasn't kind to victims back then.
