Curious how the holistic dentist comes in to play. It has to be about fluoride right? I know that's a hot one for conspiracy theorists.

that was my biggest question after reading this article.

i dont even know what a holistic dentist entails... had a quick wiki look. They're definitely against fluoride and "common threads include strong opposition to the use of amalgam in dental fillings, nonsurgical approaches to gum disease, and the belief that root canal treatments may endanger systemic health of the patient through the spread of trapped dental bacteria to the body."

Probably oil pulling. And that's it.

I do that. Not sure if I feel like it’s healed inflamed gums or what not, but I notice my teeth are whiter , especially in photos

you can get popcorn lung from aspirating oil

It can help remove *some* superficial bacteria but it won’t help with gingivitis or any other gum disease - the bacteria is too deep for oil to penetrate, and in fact the oil can help trap it and make it worse. You’re significantly better off using a traditional mouthwash twice a day.

What about activated charcoal

Reply

If you’re brushing your teeth with it, stop immediately. It’s too coarse and rips up your enamel. If you’re using it as a mouthwash, it can help absorb some odors but that’s about it. There’s no proven benefits and lots of potential risk with charcoal (and please god don’t ingest it if you’re taking medications).

Chewing on roots or something….not a sarcastic response….

Weren’t most thing holistic/natural until white colonization ??? Not knocking meds/drugs etc. I take plenty of them. 😁

Yeah. There are lots of traditional Chinese medicine teachings that teach it as a supplementary. Even in schools they will sometimes teach them as concordant with "western" or proper medicine etc.

A lot of holistic isn't bad so to speak but it's not meant to cure. It's like drinking honey tea is good for a sore throat but it's not meant to cure the cause for the sore throat etc

What Westerners don't understand about Chinese medicine is that a lot of it are preventative measures. There are those that boost your immune system over time and there are those that absolutely do have medicinal properties so it's not that different from Western medicine.

But modern medicine has proven time and time again that you get the best results using a combination of Chinese and Western methods (eg. X-rays, MRI scans, etc..) as long as you're not mixing your meds. You're not gonna be able to cure cancer if you have no idea where it is just as you can't efficiently fix broken bones if you don't set them back into place correctly first which is why so many legit martial arts masters in the old days are also experts in Dit Ta (aka trained in bone-setting and Chinese medicine; this is something Western medicine doesn't do and why so many serious injuries don't heal as well or as quickly in comparison)

Even in white/western cultures all we had were basically plants, fungi, minerals and leeches for a long time until we started funding ways to extract and/or synthesise compounds. Even some modern medicines still use animal and plant-derived compounds. Aspirin came from willow trees. Morphine and opium came from poppies. Cocaine came from cocoa. Quinine was from the fever tree. Digoxin from Foxglove. Even some chemotherapies still use platinum in them. Leeches are still used medically. Early insulin therapy was literally harvested from pigs (and some still are). A lot of modern cancer medicines are made in immortalised hamster cells that grow in massive vats.

Medicine is crazy interesting.

lol, way for them to be outdatedly contrarian, the vast majority of dentists stopped doing amalgam fillings ages ago

right? everyone does resin composite. of course, insurance usually downgrades to the amalgam fee on most posteriors.
