Honestly, you aren’t missing much, there are much better romcom movies out there. It just so happened this was one of the first of the 90’s/00’s romcom era.

it's pretty uncomfortable and very outdated, i think a lot of people wouldn't like it if they rewatched it today.

Same. I've never seen it either. But I just know that "Big mistake" gif. And Richard closing the jewelry box on Julia.

You’re not missing anything. It has some iconic scenes and songs, but that’s it for me. The whole movie itself isn’t great.

I’ve never really been a romcom fan though occasionally there is a good one. My criticism is that they’re too formulaic but I know that makes me a big hypocrite because I’m a slasher movie Stan and those are some of the most formulaic movies ever hahaha. But I guess it’s whether or not you find the formula comforting! Hehe

Gary Marshall basically redid a better version of it with far superior Princess Diaries. All of the best parts of PW (especially Joe lol) are in the Princess Diaries, with a much cuter love story. Just look up the dresses from Pretty Woman since that's the only area where Princess Diaries doesn't quite match it.

julia is great in it and i think they have good chemistry but it's extremely dated. you'd have to overlook a lot of problematic stuff if you watched it.

You and me, both. I'm not a movie person to begin with (I prefer music), but I just can't get into these "classics." I won't watch one just because it's a classic alone, and being pressured by others don't make it better. I'm sure we're not missing much. It's probably problematic and dated now, and probably White nonsense. I think I just can't get into movies White people love so much, like the equivalent of their turn-up songs (e.g., Mr. Brightside).
