Not even his publishers will get the final draft. He'll send it just before all telecommunications go down for the start of WWIII.

Isn't the rumour that it will be released post-humously? And so a release date might be a tricky one to plan...

He said he wasn't going to try to predict a date anymore because it's gone so wrong in the past and people get upset about it

i just read/watched asoiaf/got recently. i think that the last books will never come out bc of how millions of fans reacted to his ending. George told the HBO people the major story beats like Stannis kills his daughter, Daenerys burns King’s Landing, 3 eye raven/Bran becomes the king. But because there were no book scenes to adapt from the writers had to string the characters along through those points on their own, and on top of that supposedly didn’t even wanting to be doing the show anymore. This led to the drop in quality in the show, but it was still loyal to George’s vision. So I think the outcry messed him up, understandably so
