Weird, I had no idea this was being made. I just watched Rosemary’s Baby for the first time last week. I forgot until about 45 min in that it was directed by Roman Polanski 🤮 which sucks cause I really, REALLY enjoyed it 😩

Polanski, especially early Polanski, is regrettably also a great goddamn director.

He really was. He's an inexcusably awful human, but that means he's an excellent example of how just because someone is GOOD at a chosen art form doesn't mean they're good at being a human being.

I think it was one of the producers or someone else who said that the reason it was a good adaptation of the book was because Roman didn’t know you deviate from the source material so as result he remained true to the book as possible.

I’ll give him this but I thought it was clever that he says he didn’t totally make it out to be supernatural and if you wanted you could see it as a straight story and that most of the events had other more benign explanations iirc.

Apparently, he filmed everything from the book, making the movie over 3 hours, but cut it down to 137 minutes. They even had Joan Crawford playing herself, as she appears in the book.
