these interviews always make me feel like a pleb and like I know nothing about film. I'd like to believe I watch more than average viewer. Am I the only one that feels this way? lol
Think of it this way, Winona probably wouldn’t know half of your favourite films/film directors. The media of film is such a vast universe that it’s physically impossible to know of every single filmmaker or to have watched their works. I always used to feel extremely inferior when other cinemaphiles would start name dropping obscure titles until I realised that discovering films/directors is not a competition. It’s an organic process that should be enjoyed, not forced.
Me too I feel like such a noob because I don’t have boujee artsy movie picks I would go in that room and look for the bringing down the house staring the lovely Queen Latifah lol
Yes I was gonna add, the point of this video is to showcase Winona's favorite films while making connections with the viewers. The point is certainly not to tick off every film on the list but relate to Winona's feelings about each film. For me, it was the bit about Gordon Parks that spoke to me the most and made me look his work up.
Yea, I've seen several movies over the years specifically because someone mentioned them in the closet. It's fun seeing which films get people excited and why and then seeing them for yourself.
it's also part of winona's and other guests' job to be apprised of notable artists in their fields. doesn't mean every actor has good taste of course but if they agree to go to the criterion closet they're probably pretty well-versed
I definitely get that. I've made an effort in recent years to watch more old films and I still feel so behind, but then you gotta remember movies are these people's whole life. So it's comforting in a way they know more about it because they should, lol, and we can learn from their expertise.
