1) Middle High German rīche ‘of high descent, noble, noble, powerful, rich’ for a rich person or someone of noble descent 2) a patronymic of a German short form of a given name with the name element Old High German rīhhi, Old Saxon rīki ‘rule, ruler, power; rich, powerful’ (see also full forms such as Reichard or Reichwald)
