Went to see Blink Twice last night! I had a couple issues with it, but liked it overall, and think it's a good debut from an actor-turned-director. My husband didn't like it, but we had a long discussion about it afterward, and I woke up thinking about it, so that's always a good sign for a movie. A little surprised it didn't do better, but the budget was only $20 million, so between theaters + VOD, it'll probably be okay.

We also saw Bridge on the River Kwai yesterday, which I had not seen before. It was really good, and I quickly realized why my husband liked it so much - the engineering and efficiency of it all, lol.

I think we'll go see Strange Darling at some point this week, maybe tomorrow.

i saw blink twice and also had some issues with it (i wonder if they were the same/similar ones!) but overall enjoyed it a lot. there were a lot of issues raised in the movie that i am still thinking about this morning too (how the brain handles trauma and potentially tries to protect us from it; the nature of power and how it interacts both with misogyny and classism; how boomer women try to “survive” vs those of us who are millennials or gen z). i will never turn down a chance to see geena davis on the big screen! i spent the whole movie trying to place sarah’s actress and with the credits i realized she was also just in hit man, which she was great in as well.

i looooove bridge on the river kwai, it’s truly a marvel! seeing it on the big screen sounds like an awesome experience.

Yeah, I was reading through the r/movies review reddit post, and [Spoiler (click to open)]someone posited that Frida might have gotten her hair cut short reflexively as a reaction to the trauma she had last time she saw Slater and her long hair was used as a weapon against her, and I was like, damn! Had not even considered that. I did think about her clumsiness that way though, like, her body attempting to stop her from even getting to him in the first place... )
