That's exactly how I feel about VIII!
The junction system really holds it back. Like you said, binding magic is a fun idea but the execution was a mess, and having to swap everything around every time you swap parties is annoying.I always have to check to make sure I actually did exchange junctions because there's always one I mess up on.
I feel like people would be kinder to VIII if it wasn't for that.
Please. I'd love a remake. I still think it might be possible after VII. Kitase seems keen on allowing the younger devs to do it, and honestly, if it's people on the VII remake team, I trust them. They seem really passionate about their work. I'd love is for them to revisit the ideas they had for 8 originally where there'd be more Laguna, Kiros, and Ward. I've also always wanted Laguna and Squall to have their talk.
lmao are you me? That's how I felt about 9 too. When I revisited it, none of the story or music really stood out for me. Vivi, of course, was a highlight and I do hope the remake does more with Beatrix, because I did like her. I don't mind the designs, but I'm glad they never did another game with similar ones. Yeah, I've always preferred the FFs that take place in a more modern/fantastical era. Like every FF has sci-fi elements, but I think it's more fun to walk around a modern city and have magical powers and swords than a medieval one.
it really doesn't. the remaster was fine as it is.

Considering how much they added to the VII universe, from countless spinoff games, to the movie, to all the merch, and how they've paid dust to VIII all these years (besides character cames on Dissida and KH), I'm inclined to believe they have no plans for VIII. It's really a shame, because if they plopped FF8 characters into the FF7R engine, it would be such a good game. I can just imagine how good Squall's or Zell's limit break would be as an action rpg. If they kept it short, just did it as 1 game instead of 3, they could do it quickly. They have the tech all figured out, they just need to create all the assets and insert them in. Of course there'd be more to do, expand the world, re-write the story, add all the npcs and side quests, but still... In my mind, it's not a daunting project.
As for FF9, I just started disc 4 and I have to revoke my opinion on the story. It got really crazy towards the end of the disc3, the whole Kuja and Terra thing, and while very out of the left field, I appreciate the fuckery that happened. Give me more of that please.

Honestly, any FF that isn't The Current One, VII, X, and sometimes VI gets paid dust, although I felt like they moved on real quick from XVI and didn't give it that much promo because they had push VII again. That's one of the reasons I love XIV. A lot of the game is a love letter to FF in general and doesn't focus on the popular ones.
Exactly! Even VII didn't need to be three parts. The first part felt like a long tech demo and they probably could have cut some parts of it and made the Remake project into two parts. My dream is that they split the remake team into two. Have one side work on whatever is next (XVIII?) and have the other work on another Remake.
Squall and Zell's limit breaks would have been amazing. Irvine's too. And I'd love to see how they handle Angelo.
lmao I feel like some people forget that happened. Like when XVI came out, people were so excited it was "medieval like IX" and then the sci-fi showed up and somehow they were shocked. It's still my least favorite of the PS1 releases because the lead up to that is pretty boring.
