she clearly wanted a Barbie where all the promotion centered on her like the promotion for Barbie centered around Margot, but Margot was the producer of the film and did so much work to see it come to fruition, had no problem sharing the spotlight with the other contributors to the film like Greta as the director, the other Barbies and America Ferrera as the actresses, Billie and Dua as the songwriters, Jacqueline Durran as the costume designer (how many other films can i even know the name of the costume designer without googling? they did a great job of highlighting her), etc. and wasn't shilling other Margot Robbie products at the same time. even if she had pulled off what she wanted, it would have been so self-centered compared to Barbie, and it would bulldozed over everyone else's contributions
( ... )
I love hearing that Margot just wanted this film made and was happy to step aside to let someone else take over the lead role if Greta found someone more suited. Class act! The Barbie marketing was so much fun.
Mte about the Barbie promo comparison. They really tried it without understanding it at all. Even Blake making the off-key point about "everyone grab your florals" like when everyone went wearing pink for Barbie.
Yeah, the movie was a guaranteed hit no matter who starred in it because of the popularity of the book. She clearly wanted to make it a launching pad for herself and get the same sort of credit Margot got. If she had just chilled a bit and read the room it probably would’ve helped her career actually.
and she didn’t consider all the damn MONEY that the Barbie promo must have burned through, Blakes movie promo looked like a DIY hack job compared to Barbie. Hell, all the promo money that went into DeadpoolVSWolverine made the market so saturated that I had to keep seeing it even in my lil niche antieerything corner of the world, don’t tell me she could learn from that.
