You make a good point and you're not the only one. The critic David Poland said this morning that it's a terrible trailer precisely because it begins with all these negative reviews and the general audience isn't going to instantly understand they're for his previous films.

And even if you get it right away, it's still dumb to remind the audience that his films have been divisive. Then the rest of the trailer is just random shots, it doesn't really tell the story. We get it, the visuals are wild, but without a solid plot, they won't mean anything substantial.
