Very small cup of tea on Colleen Hoover (Author) surrounding It ends with us. We have a local entertainment TV show in my (non-English) country and a reporter was talking about the controversy surrounding the movie, all of which is already known here. But she said that she asked Colleen Hoover about the domestic violence aspect and what she would like to say about that to the fans and Colleen Hoover apparently answered that the movie isn't about domestic violence for her and that she considers it to be just a romcom 💀.

This matches what someone posted on another reddit page about the movie:

I know someone who interviewed one of the movie’s actors for press, and yes, they were told that they were NOT to use the term “domestic violence” at all. Even at a point in the interview where they got to talk about what the film/book meant to them, they weren’t allowed to mention the DV plot. Very sketchy

Wow this is quite a PR strategy in year of our lord 2024! I hope no one is triggered by the false advertising when they go into this movie thinking it's How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days or whatever

That's exactly it! mentioning that DV is a major plot point would bring down the "wear your florals, bring your girls" vibe they are going for $$$$$

an absolutely boneheaded strategy. i wonder why justin wanted to make the movie at all. the whole lore about the book was how the author didn't really know how to write about DV in the first place.

this is completely stupid and also makes a lot of sense considering Colleen's obvious issues when it comes to DV/relationships? i know the fans want to assign a far deeper meaning to her work but bottom line is she probably wanted to treat the DV as an afterthought and focus on the positive, happier outcome. it's the type of toxic positivity that seems very much in line with her and Blake's brand of idiocy.

I don't understand how this movie could be considered a romcom in any stretch. One trailer made it look like it could possibly be a dramatic romance movie like The Notebook.
