And that’s where I get tired of people coming after the latest widely disliked celeb. I will neeeeever defend Lively’s bullshit, but people are also pulling things out from the archives to give themselves a voice rather than the actual targets of Lively’s assholeness.

I know that the use of that word was somewhat acceptable 10-15 years ago but definitely not acceptable today. That said, it’s not really my lane to say we should hang her out to dry for using a word in 2009 that is not acceptable today.

It's really ok that a rich celebrity is being criticized for transphobia

I also (perhaps somewhat OT, but it was fresh on my mind) commented about randos on social media using this feud to promote their opinions/hot takes while dismissing the opinions of people actually affected by Lively’s behavior and words (black people, DV victims, now trans people, etc). They’re all falling over themselves to hate on her for views/followers/attention without actually listening to the groups she’s hurt.

"I'm Black and don't care that she got married on a plantation or that she wanted to preserve the heritage and style of the people who enslaved and harmed my ancestors" is not an actual stance.
Black people are not some infallible beings where everything they say regarding something pertaining to other Black people is immediately right. Remember that Candace Owens exists. Remember her comments about George Floyd, Sandra Bland, and most recently, Sonya Massey? Do you think her take should be LISTENED to?

None of the diverse group of trans people (according to the TikToker herself, I didn’t go into her comments and do a poll) who shared with her that they’ve reclaimed the word said it was acceptable to be used by cis people. They told her it’s used within their circles and doesn’t always have to be seen as derogatory (something she said it was 100% of the time).
It’s like dismissing many, many black people who causally use the n-word within the black community. It’s not up to a white person to say what is and isn’t ok in black spaces.
Bringing up MAGA minorities or nutcases like Owens is a false equivalency. It has nothing to do with what I was talking about.

There are a ton of Black people who defend or excuse White people saying the N word. Them being Black does not make that particular take any less wrong.
Remember there are women, Hispanics, Gays, Trans people and other minorities who still support Donald Trump...
