I watched someone make several videos about this today because she considers herself an ally to the trans community, but she kept ignoring the 50% of the trans creators who said the word was acceptable (ish) at the time and that it’s a word still used to this day by many trans people. They weren’t saying they’re ok w/cis people using it, just that it’s not always considered a slur and she didn’t want to listen.

And that’s where I get tired of people coming after the latest widely disliked celeb. I will neeeeever defend Lively’s bullshit, but people are also pulling things out from the archives to give themselves a voice rather than the actual targets of Lively’s assholeness.

The dog piling is getting old.
I know that the use of that word was somewhat acceptable 10-15 years ago but definitely not acceptable today. That said, it’s not really my lane to say we should hang her out to dry for using a word in 2009 that is not acceptable today.

Tbf I doubt this will get any traction. The dailymail, like many others, will do anything for more clicks.

It's interesting that ONTD will go after Blake for the pettiest thing but suddenly when it's criticizing transphobia that's too far

But then again it's not like this place used to be full of terfs or anything

Not sure what that has to do with my comment. I already said she deserves everything she’s getting.

You didn't actually say that at all

It's really ok that a rich celebrity is being criticized for transphobia

I literally did in the last part of my comment.

I also (perhaps somewhat OT, but it was fresh on my mind) commented about randos on social media using this feud to promote their opinions/hot takes while dismissing the opinions of people actually affected by Lively’s behavior and words (black people, DV victims, now trans people, etc). They’re all falling over themselves to hate on her for views/followers/attention without actually listening to the groups she’s hurt.

If you're an unbothered member of a group she hurt then you're really not the person who should be commenting, right?

"I'm Black and don't care that she got married on a plantation or that she wanted to preserve the heritage and style of the people who enslaved and harmed my ancestors" is not an actual stance.

Black people are not some infallible beings where everything they say regarding something pertaining to other Black people is immediately right. Remember that Candace Owens exists. Remember her comments about George Floyd, Sandra Bland, and most recently, Sonya Massey? Do you think her take should be LISTENED to?

I’m going to reply to both of your comments here.

None of the diverse group of trans people (according to the TikToker herself, I didn’t go into her comments and do a poll) who shared with her that they’ve reclaimed the word said it was acceptable to be used by cis people. They told her it’s used within their circles and doesn’t always have to be seen as derogatory (something she said it was 100% of the time).

It’s like dismissing many, many black people who causally use the n-word within the black community. It’s not up to a white person to say what is and isn’t ok in black spaces.

Bringing up MAGA minorities or nutcases like Owens is a false equivalency. It has nothing to do with what I was talking about.

What the hell does any of this have to do with Blake Lively being transphobic

I know English is my third language, but I’m pretty sure I’ve used the simplest terms to explain my original comment. If you or the other person can’t comprehend any of this, it’s not my problem.

Way to be dismissive

That person is right.

There are a ton of Black people who defend or excuse White people saying the N word. Them being Black does not make that particular take any less wrong.

Remember there are women, Hispanics, Gays, Trans people and other minorities who still support Donald Trump...
