This reminds me of my problem with shows in the 90s/2000s and how they dealt with sex and teenage girls. I've been getting a lot of George Lopez Show clips on tiktok and almost every clip is a scene where George Lopez is obsessed with his daughter being a virgin. One scene I saw is when she comes back after running away and all he cares about is whether she had sex with her bf. He even wants to take her to a hospital to get tested. Another is where he's livid that she's on birth control.The most egregious one I saw is when the son is peeping on her and her friend so she sprays him in the eye and she gets punished. It's insane. And don't get me started on how they wrote her character. It's infuriating to watch and I hate that I grew up watching that kind of narrative when it came to sex. It made me buy into purity culture for a long time.

Well Spelling was obsessed with his teenage daughter Tori remaining a virgin even though she wasn’t irl so one of his ultimatum to 90210 writers was that her character Donna remain a virgin until marriage. Sick.

If I remember correctly in the 4th season when they moved in together with Kelly to the beach house, Tori was finally ready to sleep with David and they made all these romantic plans and then the next episode she gets cold feet just as they’re about to do it. Apparently daddy Spelling found out about the script and immediately vetoed the plans. I think Donna literally remained a virgin until the final season when they finally tied the knot (I could be wrong tho).
