I think in part it really is that she doesn’t have a particularly good sense of comedic timing, and this is something I was thinking about when I rewatched her SNL episode a few months back. her monologue was really stilted and off, and her best performances were either when she had an accent or she was delivering her lines with total intensity.
which is more than I can say about her husband who literally just has sarcasm and is at best, market corrected versions of Jason Lee, Dane Cook and Dax Shepherd
i feel like with RR it's an example of "better to be ON all the time than OFF all the time" because if he's just always sarcastic, it'll randomly land and the more it just happens to land the more it feels "funny". comparatively blake is like awkwardly dangling herself between trying to be a girl next door and a mean girl lmfao, it's really weird.
yeah, it makes her an interesting - or, as the case may be, UNinteresting - actress since she's not quite skilled enough to be in serious prestige roles but she also doesn't have the comedic chops for just pivoting and going into romcoms or sitcoms. but she does still have *something* to her acting that sets her apart from any old schmo off the street, like I don't think she's awful or forgettable necessarily. maybe this whole serious romantic drama that is still fairly lowbrow really is right up her alley (just like, in retrospect, Gossip Girl was)
She was fine in A Simple Favor, so I think she needs to work more on pulpy comedies where her character doesn't have to be funny, but the material itself is.
that being said! don't be a mean girl on camera, it always comes back to bite you in the ass
