Really?? I had no idea. But it makes no sense lol. How can something that's forbidden be okay in certain circumstances? Fucking religious fanatics, man. Always doing mental gymnastics to justify bending the rules.

It's kind of a long history with it - back in their founder's day, they believed that hot drinks would cook your insides so they believed it was bad for you (something like that anyway). So it was a rule you couldn't drink anything hot, which was usually coffee or tea - but then as time went by and they learnt that wasn't true, their members kept asking for clarification on the rule. So then the leaders said that it must have been a misunderstanding and it actually meant caffeine since it can give you a 'lift' and can be addicting. So they all avoided any and all caffeine for a long time - then sodas became popular and since they can't have alcohol, sugar is basically their vice. Eventually the church said that they now do not have an official stance on caffiene but to avoid it when possible, but a lot of members interpret the rule to be hot caffeine somehow.

Ah, I forgot to come back, sorry! It's probably pointless to reply at this point, but I really wanted to say thanks for that explanation, I had no idea it's evolved like this. It really is utterly fascinating.
