Funnily enough, I chose self-harm and started rewatching this show. Season 1 was so good, although why are there always so many naked women? Christ.

That was definitely something positive about the later seasons: way less objectification of women and way more women in positions of power.

if game of thrones was published today, i think there'd be a lot more scrutiny about all the sex scenes with 13 and 14-year old girls (always girls) that GRRM seems to love writing

i know that writing a thing doesn't mean approving of it--but those scenes are definitely written in a titillating way and there are not nearly as many corresponding scenes with boys in their early teens and the obsession with dany's breasts (which he writes about in the most male writer way possible) is creepy as fuck

I will never forget the scene in season 1 where Littlefinger is expounding about his harsh beginnings or whatever while two women went at it behind him. That's when I was like "Oh. I see."

I think I may have watched that scene last night because Littlefinger monologuing while he's directing two women to pleasure each other was what prompted me to go "Ah, a GOT post-let me have a one second rant!"

ugh i haaaaate scenes like that! it’s always so skeezy. at least scenes like cersei and jaime being walked in on (climbed in on?) is a serious plot point; stuff like that was just showing off naked women for the sake of it.

i don't love house of the dragon but the lack of nudity and rape and completely superfluous brothel scenes (with lopsided male/female nudity) and the more diverse casting (every POC in Game of Thrones is either a savage, a slaver or a slave--always a boring, underwritten nonentity) is nice

I was afraid to watch HotD because of GOT's excessive nudity, but I've been glad to see we don't see tits and vag, and we just saw dick and balls once lol.

I also agree with you wrt the diverse casting, although I wish their pacing allowed for all the characters to be fleshed out more.

HotD feels a lot like a show that suffers from the modern short seasons hampering characterization. Even GoT had 10 episodes per season for most of its run.

i'm rewatching the whole series and I forgot how many naked people were in the first season. I was like "damn" lol

You and I are having the same experience LMFAO. Robert just died and I'm like I've seen more boobs than I need to. Knowing the personal life of one of the actresses who is always naked makes me wonder if she was okay with all the nudity, and knowing how Emilia was treated on set makes me so uncomfortable every time she's naked.
